What Do Colleges Look For?

A recent survey of independent college consultants reveals the “Top Ten Strengths and Experiences Colleges Look for in High School Students.” A student’s academic performance in high school tops the list. What is important to think about when viewing these results is not to change yourself into what you think colleges seek but instead learn to convey your strengths and passions: whether that’s a willingness to challenge yourself in a difficult course, demonstrating passion for a particular subject, committing yourself to community service, or demonstrating leadership. Continue developing your strengths and passions and seek to make your application most effectively reflect YOU.
